Cutting and Pitting Cherries

So some recipes call for cherries. But of course you wouldn't put the whole cherry in there with the pit and everything. So you need to pit them, right? Right. And also I really like cherries, but don't really like the pits n' friends.

Here is how I pit cherries (with beautiful pictures, taken by me!):

First, you need to get your cherries. Wash them, too.
 Next, remove the stems.
After that, you're ready to cut them! Here's how! (You probably already figured it out but I'll show the pretty pictures anyway)

Starting at the top, make a slit-type thing. Just press your knife down until you feel the pit.
After the initial cut, rotate the cherry all the way around.

1/4
1/2
3/4
4/4! Yay! Once you have made the cut all the way around, gently twist the sides in opposite directions to separate.
Hopefully you will have made a clean cut.
To remove the pit, you can either use your knife or your fingers. With a knife, make little cuts around the pit, until you can get the knife under the pit. Then just wiggle it out. If you are using your fingers, squeeze the longer sides and use your fingers to pull the pit out.
Tada! No more pit! Now you can use the pitted cherries for whatever you want! I sprinkled mine with a little bit of sugar and just ate them!
And once you're finished with the cherries, go eat some blueberries, too!
