Chocolate Ice Cream

I made some really good ice cream this time, I promise! It's chocolate-y, and creamy, and, well, chocolate-y. And I think that you should make it too!

This recipe is a bit more involved than the other ice cream recipes. You need to heat the milk, then pour it over the chocolate to melt, then wait for that to cool, then add the cream and vanilla, then chill that, then make it. But I promise promise promise you, it's totally worth it!

The first thing, like I said, is to heat the milk. I just did it in the microwave, but if you're paranoid about that, you can do it on the stove. Once the milk is heated, pour it on top of the chocolate. I used chocolate chips because (a) I had them and (b) I didn't need to chop them since they're already small.

So anyway, pour the milk on the chocolate and stir it around until the chocolate is melted. 

Sometime in between the pouring and the chocolate milk, add the sugar. Stir that around, too, so that it gets incorporated. Cool that until it's cool (I put it in the freezer for 15ish minutes), and then add the cream and vanilla. 

Chill the whole mixture for 30 or so minutes, then put it in the machine.

5 minutes past.

10 minutes past.

15 minutes past.

20 minutes past.

Right out of the machine.

Once it's been chilled.

Recipe (from Cuisinart booklet):

1 cup milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 ish cup chocolate (small pieces or chips)
2 cups heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat the milk until it's just bubbling around the edges (3ish minutes in the microwave, stirring every minute). Pour the hot milk over the chopped chocolate, and stir until it's melted. Add sugar, and stir to incorporate that. Let it cool completely. Stir in the cream and vanilla, and chill for a minimum of 30 minutes. Pour into the ice cream maker, and let it mix for 25-30 minutes.

You can add mix-ins, too! Cookies, brownies, nuts, marshmallows. This is a really rich, creamy ice cream, though, so keep that in mind!
